Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board has not included former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a video on the country’s great cricketers and their achievements on Independence Day, even though Pakistan won the World Cup in 1992 under Imran’s captaincy. People have expressed displeasure on social media over Imran’s neglect. Pakistan celebrated its 77th Independence Day on 14 August.

Imran, the founder of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI), has been lodged in Attock jail in Punjab province since August 5. He has been sentenced to three years in a corruption case. The Election Commission of Pakistan has disqualified him from politics for the next five years. PTI has complained that Imran has been kept in worse conditions in the jail.

The PCB released a two minute 20 second video on August 14 in which Imran is nowhere to be seen. He was the captain of the Pakistani team that won the ODI World Cup in 1992. Imran is so popular in Pakistan that on this move of PCB, ‘Shame on PCB’ started trending on Twitter in Pakistan.

One fan Jibran wrote, ‘The current administrators of PCB were not even born when Imran was making the country proud. What PCB did is shameful. Legend Imran Khan rules the hearts and you will always be cursed for this act.

Another fan Khalid wrote, ‘He was not shown in Pakistan’s cricket history but when history of Pakistan will be written his name will be in golden letters. He will be remembered as a hero who inspired millions.
