Ranchi: England’s young leg spinner Rehan Ahmed is returning home due to urgent family reasons and will miss the remaining matches of the five-Test series against India. 19-year-old Rehan has taken 11 wickets at an average of 44 in the first three Tests, including six in the second Test in Visakhapatnam. The England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement, “Rehan Ahmed will return home with immediate effect due to personal reasons.” He will not return to India. No one else has been included in the team in his place. Shoaib Bashir was included in place of Rehan in the England team for the fourth Test.
There is only one match left in the five-match series and England have another spinner in the team in the form of Tom Hartley who has taken 16 wickets so far. Rehan, of Pakistani origin, had to face visa problems when he came here from UAE for the third Test. He had come on a single entry visa but it expired when he went to UAE on the mid-series break. On his return here, he was stopped at Rajkot airport, after which the matter was resolved due to the intervention of the Government of India and BCCI.
