New Delhi: Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant will not keep wickets in the first phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sharing this information, Delhi franchise co-owner Parth Jindal said that Pant will captain only in the first phase of IPL. He also said that South African fast bowler Anrich Norkhie will be fit by the first match in Delhi. Delhi has to play its first match with Punjab Kings on 23 March.

Jindal said that the think tank of team director Sourav Ganguly and coach Ricky Ponting is confident about Pant’s return. However, permission is still pending from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Jindal said, “Rishabh is batting, he has also started running runs.” He will be completely fit for IPL. I am expecting Pant to play and he will lead the team from the first match. He has also started wicketkeeping, but will only bat in the first seven matches. We will have to see how his body responds after the match.

It is noteworthy that Pant played a practice match in Alur this week under the supervision of the medical staff of NCA and BCCI. On Tuesday, he also posted a video on his Instagram, in which he was seen practicing run-taking along with wicket-keeping. On Wednesday, he batted and fielded for 20 overs in the practice match. Before joining the Delhi camp, Pant will play some more such practice matches. He will join Delhi’s practice camp in Visakhapatnam only after getting BCCI’s approval.
