London: England’s left-arm spinner Jack Leach has been ruled out of the remaining three Test matches against India due to a knee injury. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced. No other player has been included in place of Leach yet. This indicates that the spin trio of Tom Hartley, Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir will continue for the remainder of the tour. Joe Root is England’s fourth spin option.
Leach suffered a knee injury in his left leg during England’s first Test in Hyderabad, due to which he could not play in the second Test in Visakhapatnam. He will fly home in the next 24 hours from Abu Dhabi, where the England team is based ahead of the third Test starting in Rajkot on February 15, the ECB said in a media release. According to this, Leach will work with the medical team of England and Somerset for his ‘rehabilitation’. 32-year-old Leach has 126 wickets in 36 Tests and he also bats in the lower order.
