IND vs SL 3rd ODI Highlights: India got the biggest win in ODI history, Virat-Gill bat and Siraj shined with the ball

Thiruvananthapuram: India has made a clean sweep of the ODI series by defeating Sri Lanka (IND vs SL) by 317 runs. This is the biggest win in terms of runs in ODIs. Earlier, New Zealand had defeated Ireland by 290 runs. India had earlier won by 257 runs against Bermuda in 2007. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill scored centuries for India in the match played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. These innings took the team to 390 runs. Mohammed Siraj destroyed the Sri Lankan batting in the powerplay. In the end the team scored 73 runs for 9 wickets. Ashen Bandara did not come to bat due to injury and India got a record win.

Virat’s 46th century

In-form Virat Kohli and opener Shubman Gill scored centuries for India. Kohli scored 131 for the second wicket with Gill (116) and Shreyas Iyer (131) in addition to scoring his second career-best 166 not out off 110 balls with eight sixes and 13 fours during his 46th ODI and overall 74th international century. 38) shared a 108-run partnership for the third wicket.

Thanks to Kohli’s innings, India managed to collect 126 runs in the last 11 overs. For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha took two wickets each but conceded 87 and 81 runs respectively. Rohit Sharma (42) elected to bat after winning the toss and provided a good platform for the team by adding 95 runs for the first wicket with Gill.

Rohit-Gil gave a fast start

Rohit brought the team’s score to 75 runs in 10 overs with two sixes and a four on Rajita in consecutive balls. Rohit, however, caught Avishka Fernando at the boundary in an attempt to pull Chamika Karunaratne’s ball. He hit three sixes and two fours in his 49-ball innings. Kohli looked in good touch from the start. He opened the account with a four on Karunaratne. Gill completed his half-century in 52 balls with a single off Vandersay.

Gill completed his second ODI century in 89 balls with fours and sixes in consecutive balls of Nuwanidu Fernando and then one run. Gill got bowled trying to play Rajita’s ball forward. He faced 97 balls and hit 14 fours and two sixes. Kohli took the team’s score past 300 runs in the 43rd over with a four off Karunaratne but Ashen Bandara and Vandersay collided with each other while fielding at the boundary and got injured.

Virat set a flurry of records

Kohli scored his 10th century against Sri Lanka in 85 balls with a single off the next ball. With his 21st century, he broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar (20 centuries) for most centuries on home soil. Only Tendulkar (49) has more centuries in ODIs than Kohli. After completing his century, Kohli hit two consecutive sixes, one over Rajita and one over Karunaratne. Iyer then became the victim of Lahiru Kumara. Kumara sent Rahul (07) while Rajita sent Suryakumar Yadav (04) to the pavilion.

Siraj gave initial shocks

Sri Lanka was given the initial shock by Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj. He sent Avishka Fernando (1) to the pavilion in the very second over. After this, Kusal Mendis (4), Wanindu Hasaranga (1) and Nuwanindu Fernando (19) were also dismissed by Siraj in the first powerplay itself. Shami didn’t even let Aslanka (1) walk. Sri Lanka were 5 for 39 after 10 overs.

After the powerplay, Siraj ran out Chamika Karunaratne on his own ball. Then captain Dasun Shanaka was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav. Concussion substitute Dunith Welles was dismissed by Mohammed Shami for 3. Sri Lanka’s 8 wickets had fallen for 51 runs. Rajita and Kumara added 23 runs for the 9th wicket. Kuldeep Yadav bowled Kumara (9). Injured Bandara did not come out to bat and India won the match. Siraj took 4 wickets by giving 34 runs. This is his best performance in ODIs.
