India faces Switzerland in the first match of Men’s Hockey 5s World Cup

The Indian men’s hockey team will open its campaign against Switzerland in Pool B of the inaugural FIH Hockey 5 World Cup in Muscat on Sunday. The Indian team captained by Simranjit Singh will face Egypt on Sunday itself. The team will play Jamaica in the last group match on Monday.
Pool A has teams from Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan and Poland. Pool C consists of Australia, Kenya, New Zealand and Trinidad and Tobago while Pool D consists of Fiji, Malaysia, Oman and USA. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarter-finals. The semi-finals will also be held on the same day and the final will be played on Wednesday. India defeated Pakistan in a shootout in the final of the 2023 Men’s Asian Hockey 5 World Cup Qualifier.
The captain of the Indian team is Simranjit Singh, who was in the Tokyo Olympics bronze medal winning team, while Mandeep Mor is the vice-captain. Suraj Karkera and Prashant Kumar are the goalkeepers. Mandeep and Manjeet will be in defense while Mohammad Raheel Mousin and Maninder Singh will take charge in midfield. The forward line will consist of Simranjeet, Pawan Rajbhar, Gurjot Singh and Uttam Singh.
