Hyderabad. Left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets each to reduce England to 246 runs after tea in the first innings on Thursday, the first day of the first cricket test.
Among Indian bowlers, apart from Jadeja and Ashwin, left arm spinner Akshar Patel and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah got two wickets each. On behalf of England, captain Ben Stokes, batting aggressively, scored the maximum 70 runs in 88 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes and he was bowled by Bumrah as the last batsman.
Only the first half hour went with him for England. Where the fast bowlers were bowling, but as soon as captain Rohit Sharma brought in the spinners, the problems for the England batsmen increased. Bairstow and Root were able to manage the innings a little but they did not get results. Captain Ben Stokes scored a half-century but this was a time when he was batting with tail-enders and aggressive batting was his compulsion.
England scored 108 runs for three wickets in the morning session while at tea their score was 215/8 in 59 overs. India continued to take wickets in the second session at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. At tea, Stokes was unbeaten on 43 runs and Mark Wood was supporting him on seven runs. England scored 107 runs in the second session but lost five wickets, four of which were taken by the Indian spinners.
