India in Pool B with Argentina, Belgium and Australia

Mumbai Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medalists India have been placed in a tough Pool B along with defending champions Belgium, world No. 5 Australia and No. 7 seed Argentina in the hockey competition at the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris.
New Zealand and Ireland are the other teams in Pool B of six teams. World No. 1 Netherlands, world champions Germany, 1988 Seoul Olympics gold medalists Great Britain, three-time silver medalists Spain, hosts France and South Africa are in Pool A of the 12-team competition.
“The International Hockey Federation (FIH) can reveal the pools of the Paris 2024 Olympic hockey tournament following the completion of the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers,” FIH announced after the draw was held in Lausanne, Switzerland on Monday.
Eight-time Olympic gold medalists India will have to finish in the top four to qualify for the quarterfinal stage, which will be played on August 4. The semi-finals will be played on 6 August and the final on 8 August.
The participating teams have been divided into their respective pools based on the FIH World Rankings as of 21 January.
The teams finishing first, fourth, fifth, eighth, ninth and 12th have been included in Pool A. Whereas, the teams finishing second, third, fourth, sixth, seventh, 10th and 11th have been included in Pool B.
India is ranked third in the new FIH World Rankings updated at the end of the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers. Therefore, he is in the second group.
In the women’s competition, world and Olympic champions Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Japan, China and France find themselves in Pool A.
Among women, Australia, Argentina, Great Britain, Spain, USA and South Africa are in Pool B.
12 teams per gender have qualified for the Olympic Games as either the winners of their continental qualifiers as hosts or the top three finishers of their FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers.
