Tirkey is the player who has played the most international hockey matches for India. He said, ‘As a budding player, I got the opportunity to meet the great Dilip Tirkey, who told me that he used to practice four hours a day.’ Lakra was called for the Indian junior team camp in 2021 and made his debut in the 2022 Sultan of Johor Cup. India had then won the gold medal.
