Ahmedabad. New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by two wickets in a last-ball thriller at the Hagley Oval on Monday. After this, India has qualified for the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) starting on 7th June. Sri Lanka was the second team to make it to the WTC final. But now after losing the first Test to New Zealand by two wickets, the way for India to go to the final and face Australia in the final is clear.

With the Ahmedabad Test now heading for a draw, Sri Lanka needed to beat New Zealand 2-0 in the two-match Test series to qualify. But rain in Christchurch washed out an entire session in their attempt to defend 284 against New Zealand.

Kane Williamson’s 121 not out, and Daryl Mitchell’s brilliant 81 helped New Zealand to a thrilling victory. It also ensured that India will take on Australia in the WTC final at The Oval from June 7 to 11, nine days after the end of IPL 2023.

Taking a 2-1 lead in the first three of the four Border-Gavaskar Trophy Tests at home against Australia proved enough for Rohit Sharma’s men to seal their spot in the WTC final.(IANS)
