Ahmedabad: Centuries from Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill helped India win the four-match Border Gavaskar series 2-1 after drawing the Ahmedabad Test. Team head coach Rahul Dravid said after the win that playing the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia within a week of the end of the IPL would be a big challenge for the team. In fact, India’s ticket to the final of the WTC was confirmed with New Zealand’s thrilling two-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Christchurch. Sri Lanka needed to win the two match series 2–0 to keep their hopes alive.
The final of the World Test Championship will be played at the Oval ground in London from June 7 to 11. IPL will end on June 1. Terming the WTC final as a ‘challenge’, Dravid said the team will have to plan better for it. He told official broadcaster Star Sports after the Test match, ‘We qualified for it at lunch. I refrain from saying anything before things are clear. We will celebrate it. “It will be very challenging as the IPL final is just a week before the WTC final. We will think about it. It is a pleasure to coach this team. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were jointly named Man of the Series for their impressive performances with the ball and bat in the series. Ashwin took 25 wickets and contributed 86 runs with the bat while Jadeja took 22 wickets and scored 135 runs with the help of a half-century.
