Indian badminton women’s team reached quarter-finals after defeating Mongolia

Hangzhou (Uttam Hindu News): India’s badminton women’s team has entered the quarter-finals by defeating Mongolia 3-0 on Thursday. The Indian women’s team of two-time Olympic medalists PV Sindhu, Ashmita Chaliha and Anupama Upadhyay will be in action today in the 19th Asian Games being held in China. India registered a 3-0 win in the Round of 16 matches. Playing on the court of BJ Gymnasium, PV Sindhu started the match against Mongolia’s Mygmartseren Ganbaatar and India defeated her Mongolian opponent easily 21-2, 21-3. In the team’s second match, young Indian shuttler Ashmita Chaliha, ranked 49th in the badminton world, won against Kherlen Darkhanbaatar with the score of 21-2, 21-3 in 21 minutes. In the third and final singles match, world number 85 Indian badminton player Anupama Upadhyay defeated Mongolian shuttler Khulaangu Bataar 21-0, 21-2 in straight games in a match that lasted 22 minutes, giving the Indian team a 3-0 victory. The Indian women’s team will face Thailand in the quarterfinals on Friday. Meanwhile, the Indian men’s team will be in action on Friday after getting a bye in the first round. The HS Prannoy-led team will face either Nepal or Mongolia in the quarterfinals. A medal will be assured for the Indian badminton team as soon as it makes it to the semi-finals.
