The Indian men’s football team will travel to Abha, Saudi Arabia in a chartered flight for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Round 2 match against Afghanistan on March 21. All India Football Federation (AIFF) gave this information on Friday.
Indian team head coach Igor Stimac had expressed serious concerns to the AIFF regarding travel-related issues, following which federation president Kalyan Choubey took this step. Choubey said in a statement issued here, “We never compromise on issues related to the national team and hence we have decided to hire a chartered plane to transport the air to our players.
We do not want to leave any stone unturned to ensure the success of our national team.” The national team has rarely used chartered aircraft for travel before. Stimac welcomed the AIFF’s decision, saying, “I am very happy and I really hope that the players will understand the efforts of the AIFF. Afghanistan’s home matches are being played at neutral venues while India will play its home match against the country on March 26 in Guwahati.
