Rohtak. National junior women’s boxing coach Geeta Chanu believes that a month-long practice camp should be organized with international boxers for the development of the sport in India. Chanu said that countries like Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have become superpowers in this sport because there is coordination among the respective boards.

Chanu said, “The boxers of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have confidence along with strength. Countries like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan organize practice and competition camps simultaneously for different age groups. This gives them the experience of playing at the international level at an early age.

“Our players face international boxers only in multi-national tournaments,” he said. The Indian Boxing Federation had organized a camp for junior boys and girls at the Sports Authority of India’s Junior Boxing Academy here.
