Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored in the second minute, Abhishek in the 13th minute and Sumit in the 30th minute of the match held on Friday night. India started aggressively and got the first penalty corner, which Harmanpreet converted with a powerful drag-flick to give them the lead. Only two minutes were left in the first quarter when Abhishek made a quick shot and beat the South African goalkeeper and doubled India’s lead.
Despite several attacks by South Africa in the second quarter, India’s defense remained composed and did not allow any goals. Just before half time, Sumit was successful in scoring a field goal and India went ahead 3-0. South Africa showed a lot of pace in the second half but its players could not break the Indian defence. In the third quarter, players of both the teams made a lot of efforts but no goal could be scored. South Africa kept searching for their first goal but India kept the threat at bay. India will now face Netherlands on Sunday.
