Dubai | India pacer Renuka Singh Thakur was on Wednesday named as the ICC Emerging Woman Cricketer of the Year 2022 after she impressed everyone with her bowling last year. Renuka beat Australia’s Darcy Brown, England’s Ellyse Capsy and compatriot wicketkeeper-batsman Yastika Bhatia to become the ICC Emerging Woman Cricketer of the Year.

With this, she also became the first Indian woman cricketer to receive this honour.

Renuka took 40 wickets in just 29 matches in two white-ball formats for her country in 2022, filling the void left by legendary fast bowler Jhulan Goswami. The right-arm pacer is likely to be one of India’s most dependable bowlers in the years to come.

In ODIs, Renuka took 18 wickets at an average of 14.88, eight of which came in two matches against England and seven in India’s series against Sri Lanka. His best performance came against Australia on the return of cricket to the Commonwealth Games, taking 4/18 with 16 dot balls, and but despite being at 34/4 the eventual champions chased down India’s 154.
