New Delhi: The International Boxing Federation has given a clean chit on the ongoing controversy regarding Anjani Teli in the World Boxing Championship. Anjani is playing on behalf of Nepal in the Women’s World Championship held in the country’s capital Delhi. There were allegations on Anjani that Anjani Teli was not eligible to play for Nepal after which the IBA had investigated the matter. It was alleged that the Delhi-born boxer was holding two passports.

The Indian Boxing Federation said in an official statement that Anjani had played in the national championship in 2021 under the name Hemlata Gupta and had given an Aadhaar card as proof of identity. The IBA, however, said, “Delhi-born boxer Anjani Teli never held an Indian passport nor did she play for India at the international level.” It did not violate the technical and competition regulations of the IBA in this matter. Eight years ago she became a citizen of Nepal and can play in this tournament for Nepal.

What is the side of Anjani Teli

Anjani Teli has also put forward her stand on this whole controversy. Talking to NBT on this whole matter, Hemlata said that her father is from Nepal and she has citizenship there as well. His mother is from Delhi and she also has an Indian Aadhaar card.

Has not played international matches for India

It was said about Anjani that she has participated in international boxing matches for India. Although this is not entirely correct. She participated in the Delhi State Boxing Championship in 2021 and also became the champion. In the same year, she also appeared in the Senior National Women’s Championship in Hisar where she could not reach the medal round. It is mandatory for players playing in the national to have a passport.

In case of non-availability of passport, the player has to show the slip of application for the same at the time of participation in the National. When Anjani was asked about this, she said, ‘I had applied for a passport in Delhi, but it got rejected. After this, I got a passport made from Nepal a few days ago.

In this matter, Nepal’s head coach Prachanda Sharma defended Anjani in a conversation with NBT and said, ‘AIBA has given a clean chit in the matter. He has found in the investigation that Anjani has no involvement anywhere else at the international level. This is the reason that she will play her match on Monday as well. Anyway, there is no specific problem regarding citizenship between India and Nepal. Many players from Nepal have been winning medals for India.
