India’s World Cup probables to undergo fitness test at Alur

New Delhi: The 18 players in contention for a place in India’s World Cup squad will undergo extensive fitness and medical tests in Alur as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) leaves no stone unturned ahead of the prestigious event. Most of these tests, however, are routine in nature. Tests are conducted from time to time by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) or the BCCI medical team, but assume greater importance ahead of the World Cup in October–November.
A BCCI source in the know of the matter said on the condition of anonymity, “Yes, barring the players who recently played the series in Ireland (Jasprit Bumrah, Pramukh Krishna, Sanju Samson), most of the players have Regular fitness test will be done with mandatory blood test. The parameters that will be checked include lipid profile, blood sugar (fasting and PP), uric acid, calcium, vitamins B12 and D, creatinine, testosterone.
Sometimes there are also dexa tests. It is a kind of scan to check the bone density. “It is nothing new, these tests are done in the middle of the series when the players take a break. They also have personalized diet charts and customized training modules as per their body’s requirement. As far as rest and recovery is concerned, there is no better way than a sound sleep of eight to nine hours. It is a known fact that if eight to nine hours of sound sleep is taken then chances of injury are always less.
