Actor Bhuvan Arora, who came into the acting world after taking acting training from FTII, always wanted to become an actor. Bhuvan, who has worked in many films like ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’, ‘Tevar’, ‘Naam Shabana’, ‘Bank Chor’, ‘Chaman Bahaar’, got recognition for his work in the recently released web series ‘Farzi’. From the role of Firoz. In this meeting, he tells about his journey.

Talking about his experience of working in ‘Fargie’, he said, ‘To be honest, I was not nervous on the sets because there were no people to make me feel nervous. When I went to its writer-director Raj and DK, they told me that this is a story of two boys. I agree that Shahid Kapoor is a very big star and a very good actor too, but Raj & DK made it clear from the very beginning that my and Shahid’s roles will be parallel. Actually I got this role of Firoz through casting director Mukesh Chhabra. When he told me about this role, I did not show interest, because I thought it would be a small role, but he said, I should trust him.

Shahid used to tell stories to his children on the phone
On preparing for the role, he said, ‘I worked on my language for this role. I am originally from Delhi, so I worked hard for the Mumbai language so that I could catch that dialect. I also put on weight for the role. Also got my hair cut in a strange way, so that I can look crazy. They say that class does not come when money comes, so I had to give that feel to my character. Got to learn a lot from Shahid (Kapoor). What to say about his technical knowledge? He cares so much about the craft of acting as well as the little things that you sometimes don’t think about when you are lost in your role. Learned a lot from him as a human being as well. I have seen how he balances with his family. He used to video call his children, used to tell stories. He always said, work with your heart, but don’t neglect the family. I also learned discipline from him. We also used to do workouts together. He used to get up at five in the morning.

He had said, nothing can happen to you in acting
Regarding acting, he said, ‘I was not that good at reading and writing. Once a career counselor came to my school and he asked me what I want to become in future, so I said – actor. They laughed after listening to me and that thing touched my heart. I said – why did he laugh at me, then he said, because if there is no one in my industry, then nothing will happen to me in acting. I felt very bad about that, but I was not disappointed. Connected to the theatre. I have a friend, he wanted to take admission in FTII (Film and Television Institute of India). I also filled the form with him. The interesting thing happened that my admission was done, but he was left. Later my friend abused me a lot that because of you I lost my seat.

FTII made good actor and human being
He says, ‘My acting vehicle was always in gear, FTII made me neutral. I was a typical Delhi boy, but learned so much in FTII that what to tell? There is art and education in the climate there. There not only the nuances of acting are taught but also a lot about world cinema. Those people make you so strong technically, they make you shoot so much that it is also a big reason for your confidence that when you reach Mumbai, you are not nervous. You must have faced so many cameras in two years that you know that we have done this. This institute has helped me a lot to grow as a human being as well. FTII has made me a better person, for which I am very thankful to them.

Role in big film confirmed, but not found
Bhuvan says about his rejection, ‘Rejection is a part of our industry. If someone says that he has not faced rejections, he is either lying or he is very lucky. I say the same thing to my wife that being a working person you must have to face rejection once in five-ten years when you go for job interview but an actor has to go through the process of rejection on a daily basis It happens and it used to happen a lot in the beginning. There were a lot of big projects that I was very close to doing but eventually found out, I am not a part of it. It was a very big and meaningful film, in which three new people were being introduced. My role was confirmed in that, but I was not in that film at the last moment. When that film released, it was a big hit and that actor did a great job.

When we asked him whether the film was ‘Kay Po Che Thi’? So they said – You are saying this, not me. (laughs)
