Actor Sharad Malhotra, who has traveled from the TV industry to the big screen, will be seen in a web series for the first time. In the past, he had shot the web series in many areas of Lucknow, Malihabad and Unnao. In this series, he is playing the role of a policeman for the first time. Sharad talked to us in this connection. During this, he openly expressed his views on issues like his acting journey, struggle and Bollywood Boycott.

‘Last days I was shooting my first web series in Lucknow itself. Its story is based on a true incident, in which I am playing the role of a policeman. The special thing is that it is a murder mystery, all the episodes of which are linked to each other. As far as my character is concerned, I am wearing a uniform for the first time. For this, I learned the accent of Lucknow, the style of talking, so that the character looks completely real. We shot in the oldest thana in Malihabad. During this, I got to meet many policemen and learned a lot from them too. Apart from Lucknow, it was also shot in Unnao.

came before summer

Lucknow’s winter and summer both are killers. I have faced winter before and have shot in summer this time but the same heat has not started yet. Even before that my shooting schedule got over. In fact, we had made the shooting schedule in such a way that it would be completed before the scorching heat. During this I traveled a lot in Lucknow. After the shoot, we used to go to eat Shukla’s chaat. Liked the curd-batashe very much. Lucknow is such a place, where there is a confluence of both political and literary. I also told my producer that if I get a chance, I would like to spend some time here.

OTT era

If we talk about today, then the scope of cinema has increased. The demand for web series is high. People now want to see new and good stories. I believe that the biggest reason behind OTT being popular is Kovid. When the whole of India was locked in their homes, then the craze for web series increased. One of the reasons for this is that now at home, office, while traveling, we watch movies and web series anytime anywhere. Apart from this, the absence of censorship is also a reason. I believe that the demand for OTT is high and where there is demand, there will be supply. After doing TV and films for 17 years, I felt that now it is necessary to do OTT. OTT has become like cinema, but the big screen will always be big. His audience is different.

work on my character

It is my habit that whenever I do a character, I work a lot on its nuances. Speech style, body language, pauses in dialogue delivery, these are the main ones. For example, when I played the role of Maharana Pratap, that role was very challenging because an image of that character is imprinted in the hearts and minds of the audience. Also, playing the character of a policeman in this web series was a challenge as wearing a police uniform is not everything but it is also important to look like it, only then the audience likes it.

tv my first love

Talking about television, I always say that TV is my first love and first love always comes first. No one can take his place. It is the audience’s job to like my work in films and web series but whether to work on any other platform or not is only my decision. I have done some films. It was my decision to work in them. Whether it goes now or not is a different matter. No one had forced them by holding a gun to my head. I don’t measure hit flops.

criticize, not boycott

Boycott should be removed because it is not benefiting anyone, on the contrary it is causing loss. If you cannot benefit anyone then who gave you the right to harm. Secondly why are you boycotting. Bollywood entertained you for so many years, you also gave a lot of love, now suddenly we have to boycott. I think this is not correct. You have the right to criticize. If you don’t like any movie then criticize it. Everyone has bad times, it may be that Bollywood is not living up to your expectations for some time, but it does not mean that you should boycott the entire industry.
