Jaipur. Rajasthan Royals had an 87-run opening partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler in their IPL 2023 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here on Wednesday, but an impressive performance from the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers, led by Avesh Khan, took 3/25. And Marcus Stoinis’ 2/28 gave his side a ten-run victory. In the middle phase of the game, Rajasthan restricted Lucknow to 154/7 in 20 overs, on a two-pace pitch that looked like a below par total. Till the 11th over, Rajasthan had not lost any wicket and were looking towards the target.
But Stoinis dismissed both the openers to turn the match in favor of Lucknow. Rajasthan took the score to 144/6 in their 20 overs.
Buttler, on the other hand, found his boundary after his initial struggles by swatting Yudhveer over deep mid-wicket for a massive 112-metre six. Jaiswal also hits a drive for a four, following which Buttler pulls through the leg-side to hit his third boundary of the over. Rajasthan brought up their half-century after the power-play and Buttler punched Ravi Bishnoi through the off-side on a no-ball.
Jaiswal easily dispatched Stoinis for a six over the deep mid-wicket fence after Buttler hit a reverse sweep off Impact player Amit Mishra for two boundaries.
With the required run rate rising above eight, Rajasthan lost skipper Sanju Samson as his dive after a mix-up left him a yard short of reaching the crease at the striker’s end.
In the 14th over, Butler was caught out at deep midwicket while trying to pull Stoinis. Two overs later, Lucknow struck again when Shimron Hetmyer lofted the ball over toe to long-on. Devdutt Padikkal broke Bishnoi’s spell of 31 balls without a boundary, conceding only six runs in one over.
He then hit three fours off Stoinis in the 18th over, pulling out deep square leg. With 29 needed off the last two balls, Riyan Parag hit a six over deep mid-wicket, but Ul-Haq conceded only ten runs in the final over.
Due to the slow over-rate, Lucknow could only field four fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the final over. Though Parag hit the first ball for a four, Avesh edged Padikkal past the keeper and Dhruv Jurel was dismissed at long-on, turning the game in Lucknow’s favour.
Brief Scores: Lucknow Super Giants 154/7 in 20 overs (Kyle Meyers 51, KL Rahul 39, Ravichandran Ashwin 2/23, Trent Boult 1/16) beat Rajasthan Royals 144/6 in 20 overs (Yashaswi Jaiswal 44, Jose Buttler 40) Avesh Khan 3/25, Marcus Stoinis 2/28) beat by 10 runs.
