After the match, when Kishan was asked about batting fast, he said, ‘It is not necessary that you start playing quick cricket in every match. It should depend on the situation. The condition of the pitches also plays a part in how quickly one can score runs. Chasing a difficult target of 365, West Indies were 76 for two on the fourth day of the match. The fifth day completely rained.
Ishan said, “If you get a wicket where you can score quick runs and the team needs it, then every player in this (Indian) team has the ability to play that role.” He said, ‘The kind of players we have and the number of formats and matches we play, everyone knows their role, how to play which match. Personally I feel, there is no need to play every match like this (aggressive batting). It should depend on the circumstances of the match.
Ishaan had to wait a long time to make it to the Indian team and when asked about it, he said, ‘I think every player has a different personality. This may be frustrating for some, but other players may take it as a challenge that ‘I am not trying hard enough to reach that level’.
“If someone else gets selected in the team and performs, I appreciate him because I know how tough this game is, how it tests you mentally, how difficult it is to perform when there are so many expectations and pressure,” he said. “So, whenever I am out of the team or not playing, I try to focus on my practice so that whenever I get a chance, I can give my best,” he added.
