ISSF World Cup: Sarabjot won gold in Shooting World Cup air pistol, women missed

ISSF World Cup Shooting Championship: India’s Sarabjot Singh opened India’s medal tally by winning gold in the men’s air pistol category at the ISSF Pistol Rifle World Cup, while Varun Tomar won a bronze in the same event. Indian women air pistol shooters, however, could not win a medal. Manu Bhaker, Divya Subbaraju and Rhythm Sangwan were defeated.

Sarabjot defeated Azerbaijan’s Lunev 16-0.

Sarabjot, the junior world champion in the team and mixed team categories two years ago, defeated Ruslan Lunev of Azerbaijan 16-0. He had earlier scored 585 in the qualifying round. Sarabjot scored 98, 97, 99, 97, 97, 97 in the qualification series. Liu Jinyao of China finished second. Sarabjot shot 253. 2 and Ruslan scored 251.9 points. Varun finished third with 250.3 points.

Rhythm and Manu could not make it to the ranking round

Six other shooters – Jason Solari (Switzerland, 583 points), Vladimir Svetchinko (Uzbekistan, 582), Frederik Larsen (Denmark, 580), Zhang Jie (China, 580), Ruslan Lunev (Azerbaijan, 579) and Varun Tomar (India, 579) – completed the list of eight shooters who made it to the ranking rounds.
