Mumbai: Actress Parineeti Chopra, who plays the role of Amarjot Kaur in ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, opened up about the fun she had while shooting the film under the guidance of director Imtiaz Ali. ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ team Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti and Imtiaz were seen in ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’.
Talking about her experience of playing the role of Amarjot, Parineeti said, ‘I don’t think I would have enjoyed this much in any other film, as much as I enjoyed shooting this film with Imtiaz who fed me parathas.’ Talking about the character, the 35-year-old actress said,
‘There’s no fun in looking like yourself in a biopic. I immediately gained 15 kg. I wanted to look like Amarjot. She did the show during her pregnancy and I had to play that role. The film presents the untold true story of Punjab’s rockstar and biggest record selling artist of his time, Amar Singh Chamkila, often referred to as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab’.
The film promises to take the audience to the vibrant and rhythmic world of folk music of Punjab, where Chamkila’s voice once resonated. Produced by Mohit Chaudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama and Window Seat Films, the film is streaming on Netflix. ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ airs on Netflix at 8 pm.
