Jay Shah announces Test Cricket Incentive Scheme after India’s 4-1 series win

New Delhi. Shortly after India won the Test series 4-1 against England at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has announced the launch of a Test Cricket Incentive Scheme for the senior men’s team.

The incentive scheme acts as a financial incentive for players who prefer to play Test cricket and comes on top of the existing match fee of Rs 15 lakh per match. “I am delighted to announce the launch of the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ for senior men, which aims to provide financial growth and stability to our esteemed cricketers.”

“Starting from the 2022-23 season, the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ will serve as an additional reward structure on top of the existing match fee of Rs 15 lakh for Test matches,” Shah wrote on his ‘X’ account.

According to the incentive structure posted by Shah, players who have played more than 50 per cent of Tests in a season from 2022/23 onwards will benefit the most. A player who plays five to six Tests in a nine-match season will get Rs 30 lakh per match as playing XI incentive, while Rs 15 lakh per match is kept as non-playing XI incentive.

Every player who participates in at least 75 per cent of the matches (that is seven or more matches in a nine-game season) will receive an incentive of Rs 45 lakh per match, while the non-playing XI incentive is fixed at Rs 22.5 lakh. Is. The incentive structure does not apply to those who play less than four Tests in a season.

The move comes after Shah wrote a letter to centrally contracted players last month, asking them not to prioritize playing IPL over domestic cricket matches, terming the trend as a cause for concern. Later, after sending the letter, seriousness was shown, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were left out of the 2023/24 BCCI annual contract list due to their lack of regular participation in domestic cricket matches.

“It is important to recognize that domestic cricket is the backbone of Indian cricket and acts as a feeder line for Team India. Our vision for Indian cricket has been clear from the beginning – every cricketer who wants to play for India should be given the opportunity to play for India in domestic cricket.
