New Delhi: Rishabh Pant’s return to the field from IPL 2024 is almost certain. Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has also given a big update regarding Pant’s return to the Indian team. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has said that Rishabh Pant can join the Indian team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be held in USA and West Indies, but the condition will be that he can also perform the responsibility of wicketkeeping.
Pant has been away from the game since a horrific car accident in December 2022 and is now looking to return to competitive cricket through IPL 2024.
After Pant’s exit, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have emerged as wicketkeeping options for India in the shortest format.
Pant had to undergo ligament surgery on his right knee. Apart from this he also suffered many injuries.
He underwent long rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He is expected to make his long-awaited competitive cricket comeback for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 season starting from March 22.
Shah said, ‘He is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit soon. If he can play T20 World Cup, it will be a big thing for us. He is an important player for us. If he can keep, he can play the World Cup.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami is recovering after ankle surgery which kept him out of action after the ODI World Cup final last year.
On missing out on IPL 2024 and the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, Shah said Shami’s international comeback could be in the Test series against Bangladesh in September.
Wicketkeeper-batsman K.L. Rahul, who is nursing a quadriceps (thigh muscle) injury after playing the first Test against England in Hyderabad, is undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA after meeting a consultant in London.
Shah said, ‘Shami has undergone surgery. He has returned to India. Shami is likely to return for the home series against Bangladesh. K.L. Rahul needs injections, he has started rehab and is in NCA.
