Junior World Championship: Ameesha, Prachi and Hardik won silver, 9 Indians in the race for gold

Indian boxers Hardik Panwar, Ameesha Kereta and Prachi Tokas had to settle for silver medals after losing their respective finals at the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia. Asian junior champion Hardik (80 kg) lost 2-3 to Russia’s Ashurov Bairamkhan in a close match on Sunday.
Both the boxers looked aggressive in this match and capitalized on every opportunity to score points. However, the Russian boxer overpowered the Indian player at the last moment. Ameesha (54kg) and Prachi (+80kg) suffered identical 0-5 defeats in their respective final bouts. Ameesha lost to Ayazan Sidik of Kazakhstan while Prachi lost against two-time Asian junior champion Sobyrakhon Shakhobiddinova of Uzbekistan.
India has so far secured 17 medals in this competition, including five bronze. Payal (48 kg), Nisha (52 kg), Vini (57 kg), Srishti (63 kg), Akanksha (70 kg), Megha (80 kg), Jatin (54 kg), Sahil (75 kg) and Hemant ( Over 80kg) is among the nine Indian boxers who will compete for the gold medal on the final day of the competition on Monday. Neha (46 kg), Nidhi (66 kg), Pari (50 kg), Kritika (75 kg) and Sikandar (48 kg) ended their campaign with bronze medals after losing in the semi-finals.
