Tamil Nadu’s Girish wins men’s 6-red, Chennai News in Hindi

Chennai. Tamil Nadu’s Girish defeated Sumer Mago of Maharashtra 4-2 in the men’s 6-red snooker qualifying of the 90th National Billiards and Snooker Championship at the Nehru Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

Local star Girish, representing the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), defeated Mago 44-41, 21-37, 51-12, 35-55, 42-01, 41-16 in the qualifying match.

Elsewhere, reigning Tamil Nadu 15-red snooker champion Parthiba Rajendran defeated Puducherry’s Puran Kun 4-0, while his state teammate Syed Sikandar beat Delhi’s Vishnu Prakash 4-3.

Haryana’s Divya Sharma recorded a maximum break of 75 in the fourth frame in her 4-1 (41-25,44-16, 21-49, 75(75)-0, 39-19) win over Maharashtra’s Abhishek Bajaj.

In other matches, former World Snooker semi-finalist Manan Chandra returned to winning ways against Virendra Sharma (MP) 4-1, while Karnataka’s Yogesh Kumar defeated former Asian Games snooker doubles gold medalist Rifat Habib (RSPB). Defeated 4-0.

Manan Chandra, playing for Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), lost 4-1 to Jammu and Kashmir’s Younis Nazir on Saturday.

Chandra, who recorded an impressive break of 70 in her opening round win on Friday, kept her chances of qualifying intact as the format is double-elimination knockout.
