London: England’s veteran fast bowler James Anderson has revealed that India’s lower-order batsman Kuldeep Yadav had realized that it would become his 700th wicket in Test cricket.
Anderson took his 700th wicket by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav on 9 March in the fifth and final Test match played between India and England in Dharamsala. Anderson became the first fast bowler and third bowler overall to achieve this feat. He achieved this feat in his 187th Test match.
Anderson told a BBC podcast, “Kuldeep played one of my balls at third man and took a run. When he reached the non-striker’s end, I was going back to my runup. Then he said, ‘I am going to be your 700th wicket.’ He said, ‘He did not mean that he was trying to get out. He was just saying that he felt that way. We both laughed at what he said.” Anderson, however, said that if England had won the series, his happiness would have doubled. India won this five-match series 4-1.
He said, “I did not celebrate.” There was nothing to celebrate. It was a great moment to achieve such a feat on a spectacular ground but I would have been more excited if we had won.” The 41-year-old fast bowler said, ”I don’t play cricket for records, I play for my team. I play cricket to win matches. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour even though the result did not go our way but we remained united as a team. Our young spinners and batsmen got to learn a lot from this tour.
