Let us tell you that October 4, 2022 was a fateful day for about 40 people in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Savita was killed in an avalanche on the same peak where a group of 40 people had set out to conquer it. Savita was the trainer of the group of 40 people. By conquering the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, a few months before her death, she not only brought glory to the district and state but also spread her dominance across the country. Within 15 days of conquering Everest, Savita had also made a record by successfully climbing Mount Makalu. With this, Savita became the second woman mountaineer in the country to hoist the tricolor on Mount Lhotse peak.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur shared the video of the Arjun Award received by Savita’s father from the President on his Instagram account.

With a decade-long career in mountaineering, she displayed indomitable courage, determination and stamina and displayed gallantry in the line of duty. I recognize her invaluable contribution I salute you.”
