maidan movie review

Review of the Ajay Devgan starrer film “Our country has been known for cricket and hockey since early times, although there was a time when Indian football was called the ‘Brazil of Asia’. This was possible only because of Syed Abdul Rahim and his team. Maidan is a film about the immortal spirit of a man and his rebellion against death. The film may seem a bit drawn out at some places. Bengali usage may be foreign to some people. Ajay Devgan’s Hyderabadi accent is limited to just saying ‘Mian’. There are too many cigarettes. Given that the filmmakers wanted to show the reason for Rahim’s condition, the smoking could have easily been cut out at many places, from the football federation scenes to the Hyderabad House scenes. Despite all its flaws, Maidaan is one of the best sports films made in India.
