Marry Kom on Manipur Violence: Olympic medalist boxer and Rajya Sabha MP M.C. Mary Kom On Thursday appealed to the Central Government to help in overcoming the violence that broke out in Manipur. Mary Kom tweeted late at around 3.45 pm, “My state Manipur is burning. Please help.” In this tweet, he has shared a photo of arson in Manipur tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister’s Office, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Mary Kom said, “The situation in Manipur saddens me. Earlier, I could not even imagine such violence. It has become worse since last night.” Appealing to the state and the Center to work together, she said, “I ask the state and central governments to take steps and maintain peace and security. This is my request.” At the same time, Mary Kom urged all communities to maintain peace. She said, “I respect all people. Why can’t we all live in peace? That’s my question. It will be better for all of us if we live in peace.”
He further said, ‘It is unfortunate that some people have also lost family members in this violence, so it should end as soon as possible. I pray to God that everything goes well.”
Violence broke out in the tribal movement in Manipur
Significantly, violence broke out during a tribal agitation in the northeastern state on Wednesday after which the Army and Assam Rifles were deployed to control the situation. A defense spokesman said troops from the Army and the Assam Rifles were deployed during the night and both forces, along with the state police, were able to contain the violence till morning. He said that the security forces have so far rescued 4,000 people from the violence-hit areas. He said that more people are being shifted to safer places. At the same time, a flag march is being done to keep the situation under control.
