sexual harassment case
In fact, seven women wrestlers, who have accused Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment, approached the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking filing of affidavits in a sealed cover. Delhi Police had registered two FIRs against Brij Bhushan on 28 April. The Supreme Court has decided to close the hearing on this petition on Thursday. It may be noted that the counsel for the women wrestlers had on Wednesday placed the issue before a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha.
Wrestlers cried in front of the country
Late night on 3 May, a scuffle broke out between the wrestlers and the police personnel when the police did not allow the wrestlers to bring folding beds to the picket site. The protesters claimed that two wrestlers participating in the protest were attacked by drunken police personnel and their colleagues did nothing to stop them. Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was present at the spot, broke down in tears and expressed her disappointment over the situation. Phogat, a multiple medalist for India in wrestling, accused the personnel of pushing everyone. He further raised concerns about the lack of presence of women police officers at the scene and questioned their absence.
