Sunny talks very sweetly
My reference was given by fight master Ravi Verma ji for this film. Anil Sharma (Director) sir had selected me in the first meeting itself. He told me as soon as he came that you are the ‘Chanakya’ of our place. I have been watching your work. What I needed for my role, your voice, personality and height are all right. Just a formality to meet Sunny Deol. Then Sunny sir and I met for three minutes. To tell the truth, his angry mood is visible in front of the screen. In fact, he meets with a smile and talks very sweetly. He told me that ‘Gadar’ cannot be thought of without Ashraf Ali (Amrish Puri). So it is a big responsibility for us. Do you think you are ready for this? I promised him to give my hundred per cent. I was hopeful that I would be able to do it under the guidance of Anil sir and Sunny sir.
Coming to Lucknow brought back memories of the shoot
I did not have a continuous shoot in Lucknow, due to which I had to come here in between. However, I shot most of my sequences in this city. There was a lot of shooting at La-Martiniere College. The jail portion was shot in Barabanki. Once again, when I got a chance to meet Lucknow, it seemed to be the same atmosphere as before. We and Anil Sharma sir were also reliving the memories of the shooting days. When I came to know that the team of the film is going to Lucknow, I myself made up my mind to come along with everyone. I get a lot of love from the people of the city. Adab, Tehzeeb-Tameez touches the heart.
There was no apprehension about comparing my character with Amrish Puri sir. In a way, I am also happy with the comparison that people consider me worthy that I am being compared with such a big actor, whereas I do not consider myself worthy of that right now. Everything went smoothly because of successful direction and good story.

Diversity is important at work
We are artists and it is very important to have diversity in our work. It is not a good thing if someone remains tied at one place. When one chapter ends, only then does a new one rise. You cannot put old subject in a new book. I agree that if there is a new subject, then the work should also be done afresh. Then I forget everything old. When you live any character, then things keep getting better in fun. I never think about what kind of characters to play. Like did negative roles after ‘Chanakya’. Mixed gray shades, then got positive characters. My effort remains that whatever work I get, I should be completely engrossed in it. Then it should just be about that character, whether it is positive or negative, does not pay attention to it.
Everyone has to fulfill the responsibility
Everything depends on the basis of the content. I agree that any TV show, film, web series all depend on the content. If there is good content then everything will work. Then it doesn’t matter on which platform it is. Even street plays will do. People will find good things and see. If you are an actor, get into your character, if you are a writer, try to make the story as good as possible. Overall, everyone needs to fulfill their responsibility properly.
‘Many Chanakya policies are useful in life’
The ‘Chanakya’ of the screen says that not one but many Chanakya policies are needed to live life. He has a very good line when he tells Chandragupta that my words are with you but I will not be there in the battlefield. You yourself have to react to that. There you will only remember my words. I never hesitate that I am getting to learn something from someone younger or someone older is teaching me something. He is my enemy or friend, I do not think about it. I always remember him for giving his 100%.
