Tributes on Sunday began with a public service and a private funeral in the presence of friends and family at the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) museum. His coffin was later taken to Rio on a fire engine. The coffin was covered with the flags of football’s global governing body FIFA, South American football body CONMEBOL and CBF. Upon arrival at the São João Batista cemetery there was only the Brazilian national flag on the coffin.
During this, dozens of fans along with family members and former players like football great Cafu came to bid farewell to Jagallo. Jagallo won two World Cups as a player, in 1958 and 1962. He also managed to win the World Cup as a coach in 1970 and as an assistant coach in 1994. He died late on Friday night at the age of 92 due to multiple organ failure. Local media reported that he was admitted to hospital after Christmas.
