Odisha Juggernauts top Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 table with win over Telugu Warriors

Cuttack. Defending champions Odisha Juggernauts moved to the top of the table after defeating Telugu Warriors 35-27 in front of an enthusiastic home crowd in the Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

Dilip Khandvi, Omkar Sonawane and Avinash Desai all scored six attacking points each as Odisha Juggernauts dominated throughout.

Odisha Juggernauts made a great start to Turn 1 with their first batch of Dilip Khandvi, Gautam MK and Nikhil Soday staying on the pitch for three minutes and 32 seconds and scoring three dream run points. Rohan Singade then frustrated the Telugu Warriors attackers, remaining unbeaten and earning a dream run point. Telugu Warriors’ lead was only seven points at the end of Turn 1.

Odisha Juggernauts consolidated that lead with a brilliant attack. They sent back the first batch of Telugu warriors in one minute and 37 seconds. Their second batch fared only slightly better and stayed on the mat for one minute and 48 seconds. Batch 3 Dream Run came within fifteen seconds of the point, but that didn’t change the pace. Odisha Juggernauts started the second innings with a strong lead of 23-10.

Things did not get better for Telugu Warriors in Turn 3. Odisha Juggernauts’ first batch of Omkar Sonawane, Deepesh More and Nikhil B lasted three minutes and 57 seconds on the mat and scored two dream run points. Their second batch could not last long but two members of their third batch remained unbeaten and Odisha Juggernauts took a 25-24 lead at the final turn. Their attackers had no trouble finishing the match.

Earlier, Mumbai players registered their second win in Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 by defeating Rajasthan Warriors 29-27.

Rajasthan Warriors made a great start to the match. Their first batch of Satej Patil, Vrishabh Wagh and Vijay Hazare scored three dream run points. Hazare, in particular, frustrated the Mumbai Indians’ attackers by spending a minute and 45 seconds on the mat. Mumbai players managed to send back only two more players in the turn, which meant they had only a 10-3 advantage in Turn 2.

Rajasthan Warriors easily overturned that lead in Turn 2, as their attackers sent back two batches of Mumbai players and a third batch of players. Mumbai players scored two dream run points but fell behind by 12-17 in the second innings.

Rajasthan Warriors’ first batch of turn 3 missed the dream run point by just seven seconds. Their second batch could not even manage a dream run of points, and with one player from their third batch being sent back, the Mumbai players found a way back into the match. Sreejesh S added his four aggressive points in the first innings.

Mumbaikar’s defenders took full advantage of the ray of hope that their attackers gave them. Rajasthan Warriors quickly sent back the first batch of Mumbai players after getting out a couple of times after winning the match. But the second batch of Gajanan Shengal, Sreejesh S and P Siva Reddy produced a brilliant defensive performance to score three dream run points. Shiva Reddy was successful in remaining unbeaten and led his team to victory.

On Monday, Telugu Warriors will face Gujarat Giants while Chennai Quick Guns will face Rajasthan Warriors.
