Mayank Yadav said in the press conference after the match, ‘Apart from cricket, in normal life also I like things which have high speed. Be it a rocket, airplane or super bike, speed excites me. As a child, I liked jet planes and was inspired by them. This bowler from Punjabi Bagh said, ‘I have never bowled the ball at a speed of 156 km per hour before. I have bowled at 155 kmph during the Mushtaq Ali (Domestic T20 Trophy) but this was my fastest ball.
IPL 2024: Mayank had missed IPL in 2022
Mayank was selected by the Lucknow team before IPL 2022. He had played only two List A matches then. He could not play a single match of IPL in the 2022 season and last year he was out of the entire season due to muscle strain. After recovering from injury, he uprooted the middle stump of veteran Rahul Tripathi while representing North Zone in the Deodhar Trophy played in 50 over format. He said, ‘Injuries are a part of fast bowlers’ life, they are your friends. In the last one-and-a-half year, I suffered two-three major injuries. It was also a bit disappointing for me.
IPL 2024: Consider Dale Steyn as his ideal
This young bowler said, ‘Last season also I could not play in IPL due to injury. I had a side strain injury with rib fractures. I suffered this injury during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. I try to focus more on practice and physical recovery and myself. Mayank is greatly inspired by former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn. He said, ‘I take inspiration from only one fast bowler and that is Dale Steyn. He is my idol and I admire him a lot.
IPL 2024: Mayank was excited about his debut
He said that he did not feel any pressure or nervousness during his debut match. Mayank said, ‘There was a lot of excitement about my debut. For the last two years, the only thing I have been imagining is how I will feel when I bowl the first ball when I make my debut. Everyone said that there must be some pressure or nervousness but I did not feel it at all. He said, ‘When my captain asked me to bowl the first over, I felt within myself that I belong here and was very confident.’
