Medical Tourism: The travel of foreigners coming to India for treatment is sometimes known as medical tourism. Do you know that India has joined the top 10 places in the world in terms of medical tourism. Every year, lakhs of foreign nationals visit India on Medical Tourism Visa for medical treatment. Nowadays patients from many developed countries are also turning to India for the cheapest and quality treatment in India.

According to Indian government statistics, Thailand, Mexico, USA, Singapore, India, Brazil, Turkey and Taiwan are the first choice in terms of number of patients for medical treatment. According to media reports, the cost of heart surgery in India is around Rs 4 lakh. Whereas in Thailand it is around 15 lakh rupees, and in America it is around 80 lakh rupees. Between 2017 and 2020, the maximum number of patients from Bangladesh came to India for treatment. According to the latest government data, Iraq, Afghanistan and Maldives are in second place. The number of patients coming from Oman, Kenya, Myanmar and Sri Lanka is also very high.

Triple entry is permitted in case of e-Medical Visa and e-Medical Attendant Visa and can be extended up to 6 months by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officers (FRROs)/concerned Foreigners Registration Officers on a case to case basis as well as on the merits of the case. Extension can be given. The Medical Attendant visa was co-terminus with the validity of the principal e-Visa holder. In addition, the Union Health Ministry is working with other Ministries and stakeholders such as hospitals, Medical Value Travel (MVT) facilitators, insurance companies and NABH to promote medical value travel in the country.
