Bengal’s evergreen actor Uttam Kumar will be seen again in a Bengali film four decades after his death. Yes, you heard it right, National Award winning director Srijit Mukherjee will revive Uttam Kumar on the silver screen through visual effects (VFX) and artificial intelligence (AI). Apart from Anidya Sengupta, Roshni Bhattacharya and Gaurav Chatterjee, the film ‘Ati Uttam’ also has AI-generated pictures of Uttam Kumar. These images have been taken from available footage of Uttam Kumar’s films.
Uttam Kumar will be seen again in Bengali films
Director Srijit Mukherjee has paid tribute to Uttam Kumar through the film ‘Ati Uttam’. Uttam Kumar is famous among millions of his fans as “Mahanayak”. Mukherjee has called the “exquisite” film his “labor of love”. He said on social media that it took him six years to make this film. He said in a post on ‘X’, “Atti Uttam is a film which took six years to make. During this journey, the global pandemic and the development of AI were witnessed. This is our labor of love. This is our ambitious project. This is the first film of its kind in history.”
The film was ready in 6 years
A spokesperson for a film production house said that Mukherjee spent years researching to make the film, watching over 60 films over and over again and talking to VFX experts to get each shot right. The trailer of the film Ati Uttam has been released recently, in which the story of the film revolves around two characters Krishnendu and Sohini. Uttam Kumar’s real life grandson and young actor Gaurab Chatterjee has played the role of his grandson in this film too. This film will be released in theaters on March 22.
Uttam Kumar had worked in these films
Uttam Kumar is considered one of the leading actors of the country. He acted in more than 250 films including ‘Nayak,’ ‘Jatugriha,’ ‘Chidiyakhana,’ ‘Khokababur Pratyabartan,’ ‘Chowringhee,’ ‘Thana Theke Aschi.’ Uttam Kumar died at the age of 53 on July 24, 1980 on the sets of the Bengali film Ogo Bodhu Sundari. After his death, this film was also liked a lot by the people.
