New Delhi, April 3 (Hindustan Reporter) The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) during its 129th meeting has approved the proposals for training of Paris Olympics-bound boxers in Turkey.
MYAS will provide financial assistance to Indian boxers Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Parveen Hooda and Lovlina Borgohain along with two coaches and a physio for a special overseas training camp in Turkey under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding.
Apart from the boxers, the MOC also approved overseas training camps for five TOPS wrestlers who are preparing for the upcoming Paris Olympic qualifiers and Asian Championships.
Wrestlers Sujeet (65kg), Deepak Punia (86kg) and Naveen (74kg) will travel to Russia along with their respected teammates, coach (for Ravi) and physiotherapist for training ahead of the Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament in April.
Meanwhile, Indian shooter Bhavanish Mendiratta will travel to Italy to train with personal coach Daniele Di Spigno in preparation for the ISSF World Cup, Baku. The ministry, with funding under its Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), will cover his expenses including airfare, accommodation and food costs, visa costs, coaching fees (for Bhowneesh), among other expenses.
