Mohun Bagan and Kerala Blasters will face teams with opposite forms.

Kolkata . Mohun Bagan Super Giants will be set to take on in-form Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 match to be played at their home ground Salt Lake Stadium here on Wednesday.

The Mariners are in a tough spot after nine matches as they have lost their last two matches at the hands of their nearest rivals. This losing streak started with their crushing 2-1 defeat to the Islanders in Mumbai and then FC Goa produced a strong performance to beat the Mariners 4-1 at home. Juan Ferrando will need to go back to the drawing board to find answers to a host of problems as a series of injuries and the absence of key players have left him with a depleted squad.

Kerala Blasters FC, on the other hand, is a unit that has been showing form this season and look to be keen on the opportunity as the Mariners falter. The team, playing under the supervision of head coach Ivan Vukomanovic, has shrugged off captain Adrian Luna’s injury concerns as other senior and experienced star players have taken up the responsibility and have consistently performed well.

Blasters had defeated Mumbai City FC by a margin of 2-0 in the last match, but will they be able to repeat the same strong performance in the upcoming match?

The Mariners have a chance to break this unwanted losing streak and move closer to the top teams who are currently just one place above them in the points table. However, they cannot expect a better opponent than Blasters in the next match, as they have an excellent undefeated record against Kerala Blasters FC which Ferrando will look to continue in the upcoming match. In the ISL, the Mariners have lost five times to Kerala Blasters FC in their six matches and have drawn one match.

Despite the absence of captain Adrian Luna, Kerala Blasters FC are upbeat after beating Mumbai City FC 2-0 in the last match. They showed no signs of slowing down their aggression as the forwards proved their mettle and in addition to a superb defensive performance, the striker duo of Dimitrios Diamantakos and Kwame Peprah demonstrated their precise ability with a goal each.

It will be a relief for Vukomanovic to keep a clean sheet in the next match, as his team has not conceded a single goal in its last two matches and the last time this streak lasted for three matches was in December 2014.
