Monalisa spoke on obscenity in Bhojpuri films – There are A, B and C grades in every industry and I know my roots

Actress Antara Biswas, who rules the hearts of fans by the name of Monalisa, feels Mumbai in Lucknow. Apart from Hindi, Monalisa has so far worked in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Bhojpuri industry, but she says that she got the most love in Bhojpuri cinema. For the first time she is working with Ekta Kapoor in the show ‘Bekaboo’. Antara, who describes social media as favorable for new artists, tries to make every character better with her own efforts.

‘Wish to work with Ekta Kapoor fulfilled’
I am playing the character of Yamini in the show. This is the first time I am working with Ekta Kapoor. It was my wish for so many years to work with him. I was waiting for an incoming phone call from his company. Finally, after so many years, that time has come. For the first time I have become a part of a fiction. It has different plots, in which a lot of twists are hidden. Our team is very good. Effort is being made on each and every thing. My look takes a long time. Many shades will be seen in this character.

‘Bhojpuri industry has given a lot’
As an artist, I would not say that I have learned everything. I learn something new everyday. Initially when I entered the industry, I was inexperienced, it was a different journey. Then started getting work in Bhojpuri industry. So far I have got maximum name, support and love from that industry. I consider myself lucky. Till now I have done more than 125 films. Then came the offer of Bigg Boss. After that good work started getting in TV. I will emphasize on learning things further in life.

‘The condition of the industry is improving’
On what the Hindi film industry should learn from others, she says that every industry is very strong in its own place. There is a lot to be learned from Hollywood films, people are also following them. Everyone tries to learn something better from somewhere and it is also true that wherever the good thing is, it should be followed. Different kind of cinema is being made in every industry. Efforts are being made to improve the situation day by day. Rest good and bad things are everywhere. It depends on you what and how you like.

‘Looking for depth in character’
Nowadays very good web series are being made. I do not refuse work. Whatever works best, I like to do it. Many films and web shows have been offered. Sometimes things don’t work out due to dates and sometimes the role doesn’t get perfect. However, I am happy with my progress so far. While choosing any character, I look for its depth. It is also important for me that what can I do to make it interesting from my side in that character. The rest of the story is also very important.

‘Social media is helping me a lot’
Since I have been in the industry for so many years, I have seen a lot changing. Now social media has emerged. When I started as an artist, there was not much. Had to go to office with photos and albums. Now social media helps a lot. There, your photos and videos are available to be seen. In future, this platform will prove to be more helpful for the artists.

‘Glamour and item songs in every industry’
The Bhojpuri industry has been accused of obscenity, on which the actress says that it was a long time ago. I think there are A, B and C grades in every industry. You don’t usually see these kinds of things in the films I have done. Rest of the glamor and item songs are there in every industry according to me. It is for the entertainment of the people. My husband is also continuously working in Bhojpuri industry. Now family films are being made here too, good songs are coming. People are coming with the best stories.

‘I still know my roots’
I consider myself a strong woman. I have been working since the age of 16. Yes, it is a fact that nothing is easy. It wasn’t before and it isn’t now. The journey from Kolkata to Mumbai was not easy but even today I know my roots. I am taking my family with me. I feel proud to be a woman. I like to take responsibility.
