You are seen in a fierce style in the web series, how is your nature in real life?
Smiling Vijay Verma said, ‘I am not a serial killer in real life. This show is very far from real life. This is the reason why this show has been able to attract me a lot. In real life, I am sitting here having breakfast with my mother, sister, three nieces and nephew. Told everyone not to make noise. I am giving interview. So overall this is just how I am in real life.
In ‘Darling’, first a bad husband and now a serial killer… how does the family react?
Seeing me as a serial killer, my mother told me what has happened to you. Why are you doing such roles? Although my family knows that I have the acting bug. I am fond of acting since school time. That is the reason why they know that I have dreamed of this acting for a long time and now I am living it. The family is proud that I am doing what I wanted to do.
My family knows more than me what is going on about me
It has become a routine for my nephew, niece and family to google about me. Monitor all sites. They know more about me. They keep seeing with whom I am. What am I doing Who is saying what about me. He keeps every update about me.
Your background is not filmy.. So when did you feel that you have to make a career in acting?
I think this is about 10th class. During 10th-11th class, three to four people told me that you look good, why don’t you do acting or modeling. But I took it seriously when I joined theater school. First I did B.Com. First try to make a career somewhere else. I used to think that becoming an actor is a distant thing for me. I cannot become that at all. But after doing other jobs, when I did theater and felt that I am enjoying this work the most, then I started taking it seriously. I then went to Pune and learned acting from FTII. I believed that I should first strengthen my foundation. That’s why I first learned the tricks of acting completely and then started looking for work and doing it.
Your father was against acting career, so tell us about the story when you left for acting school without telling your father?
I was secretly doing theater in Hyderabad. I knew that my father would never want me to act. Well parents know what you are doing. When he came to know about my doing theatre, he thought that maybe it would be my hobby, so I would do it for two-four days and then leave it. But I did not agree, I secretly filled the form for acting school. I got selected. I had to go for two years to learn acting. I knew very well that my father would not agree, then I made a plan with my mother and ran away from home.
Which film was the turning point of your career?
I think ‘Gully Boy’ film proved to be the turning point for my career. After the release of ‘Gully Boy’, the doors which were closed for me also opened. So some doors opened slightly and people started looking at me.
When you met Amitabh Bachchan for the first time during ‘Pink’, tell us something about that moment.
My first meeting with Amitabh Bachchan was very memorable and funny. The courtroom scene was being shot during the film ‘Pink’. He was reading his dialogues in the room. He is so tall that even from a distance it is visible that the great hero is standing. I was scared to go near him. I stood outside the room for a long time. After a while, Amitabh sir came out and extended his hand towards me and said, “Hello, I am Amitabh Bachchan.” I was stunned to see what was happening. Thank you came out of my mouth at that time. So in this way my meeting was very funny.
It is said about you that your face is somewhat similar to Hollywood actor Johnny Depp. What is your reaction on this?
Johnny Depp is a very stylish and powerful actor. I am often compared with him and I only take the positive. But to be honest, he and I have nothing in common. But if people feel it, then it is good.
