Review of ‘1920: Horrors of the Heart’
A ghost haunting an innocent and then religious rituals to drive that ghost away is the evergreen formula of horror films. Here Krishna as director chooses another path of horror and that is revenge. This is what makes this franchise different, but then the victim of the ghost is the innocent Aditi. Be it set designing or visual effects, Krishna’s film seems to be an extension of Vikram’s film. The film struggles to show horror in the first half, but after the interval it sticks to its horror genre.
The biggest problem with the film is its story woven on the backdrop of the 1920s. Although it must have been composed to maintain the impact of horror. For years, we have been seeing horror formulas like a luxurious palace amidst dense fog in a deserted forest, a galloping train spewing smoke, a scary railway station with fog. There is a lack of logic in the scenes designed to create horror. Talking about the music, the music of Mahesh Bhatt and Vikram Bhatt’s films has always been the plus point of the film, but except for one song with a lullaby here, none of the songs in Puneet Dixit’s music can make an impact. The background score of the film is strong.
In terms of acting, the main lead Avika Gaur as Meghna has tried her best to strengthen her character, but the small screen actress has failed to come out of the shadow of her serial ‘Balika Vadhu’. Danish Pandor disappoints as Avika’s boyfriend. Barkha Bisht and Rahul Dev have done justice to their roles. Ketki Kulkarni’s performance as Meghna’s step-sister Aditi is memorable.
Why see – Horror movie lovers can watch this movie.
