Aditya Karikalan (Chiyan Vikram), the eldest son of the Chola emperor, blames his brother’s death on his old lover Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), who is now the wife of the Chola general Parvateshwar and is trying to shake the empire by deceit. Meanwhile, Princess Kundavai (Trisha Krishnan), the daughter of the Chola emperor, along with her lover and Aditya’s friend Vandhyavan (Karthi) is trying to deal with these conspiracies. Hearing the news of Ponniyin Selvan’s death, Aditya and his uncle Maduranthakan compete for the throne of the Chola kingdom. During this, many secrets and conspiracies related to the empire come to the fore in the film. Who eventually occupies the throne of the Chola Empire? You will have to go to the cinema to know this.

Review of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’
Mani Ratnam has tried to make the second part of the film grander than the first. The story of the second part of the film also makes the audience more curious. The film of about three and a half hours keeps you engaged from beginning to end. Just because of the weakness of the script and screenplay, you sometimes get confused in understanding the Rashtrakuta, Pandya and Pallava kings, the enemies of the Chola kings.
Before the interval, the film introduces you to the challenges of the previous part, while in the second half all the layers of the story begin to unfold. In the climax of the film, every effort has been made to make the scene of war and court grand like ‘Bahubali’. Talking about the actors, Chiyaan Vikram has given a brilliant acting performance while Aishwarya Rai stole the show in her double role. The layers of his character once engross the audience as well. Jayam Ravi, who was less visible in the first part of the film, has shown his mettle in the second part, while Karthi and Trisha are also impressive.
Why see- If you like historical films, then don’t miss the chance to watch this film on the big screen. It would be better if you haven’t seen the first part of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ till now, then watch it on OTT before going to the cinema.
