According to a report in LiveMint, the complaint has been filed by Calcutta High Court lawyer Dibyan Banerjee. Dibyan told the court, “The advertisement by Coca-Cola for its product Sprite was in Hindi. And we don’t have any problem with that. We only have a problem with the Bengali dubbing of advertisements running on many TV channels and websites. Nawazuddin Siddiqui laughs at a joke that says, ‘Shoja angule ghee na uthle, Bengali khali pete ghoomiye pore’. In Hindi it means that if Bengalis do not get something easily, they go to bed hungry. And we feel that it hurts the sentiments of the Bengali community. We want that such cheap acts and gimmicks should not be encouraged in future.
Company removed advertisement
The report states that the company has removed the Bengali version of the ad featuring Nawazuddin following complaints, and a note issued by Sprite India also states that it regrets the recent ad campaign for the cold drink and that the company will replace the Bengali version. She respects
