Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in a recent interview talked about some remarkable chapters of his career. On Mashable India’s The Bombay Journey YouTube series, the filmmaker spoke about the rumor that he was behind the leak of his unreleased debut film Paanch on torrent sites. He also talked about India’s first Netflix original series Sacred Games.
Netflix has not given update
Anurag co-directed the first and second seasons of Sacred Games with Vikramaditya Motwane and Neeraj Ghaywan. The second season did not get the same response as the first season. Netflix has not given any update on whether the show has been officially canceled or not.

Anurag Kashyap said, “Vikram Motwani was running Sacred Games. He asked me to come on board ten days before he went to shoot for Mukkabaaz. I told him I was always interested, but he had a problem with me. Some local people told him that I do not have female audience. It was my territory, and they eventually came around… Season three was about to come out, but they shelved it, Netflix can tell why?’

He said, ‘After the Tandav controversy, all the streaming platforms are scared. Released on Prime Video, the show became widely embroiled in controversy over a scene involving actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. Several court cases were filed against the cast and crew members citing hurting religious harmony. Ali Abbas Zafar, the creator of the series, made changes in the objectionable scene. “OTT has no courage in today’s date, everyone is scared after the orgy.”

Anurag Kashyap was also asked about the leak of his film ‘Paanch’. He said, “I did not leak it. I showed it to people, I made a print for myself, which I distributed among people, one of them could have leaked it. But it wasn’t me. Black Friday got pirated and I used to buy those copies in bulk. It got pirated and somehow reached Pakistan. I got a message through Junoon Band.” He said, “We have earned so much money from your film, if you ever need funding, we will help you.” I said, ‘No, thanks’.
