EPS-95 National Sangharsh Samiti (NAC) has said in a statement on Wednesday that we will go on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on Thursday, July 20 in support of our demands. According to the statement, the EPS-95 Rashtriya Sangharsh Samiti represents retired employees of industrial, public, co-operative, private sectors who are known as EPS-95 pensioners. He had dedicated his service for the development of the country but due to the very less amount of pension, he is facing dire circumstances.
Pensioners upset over low pension
NAC President Cmdr Ashok Raut (Retd) has said that these pensioners are living in distress due to very less pension and are losing their dignity in their family and society. According to the statement, that is why on July 20, the national president of the organization Ashok Raut and the members of the central executive committee have announced a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. To garner further support, pensioners across the country will also go on hunger strike at prominent places on the same day.
The minimum pension should be Rs 7,500.
The pensioners are demanding a monthly basic pension of Rs 7,500 with dearness allowance, free health facilities for the pensioner’s spouse and a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 by including retired employees not covered under EPS 95.
12 percent goes to provident fund
Significantly, 12 percent of the basic salary of the employees coming under the Employees Pension Scheme, 95 goes to the provident fund. At the same time, out of 12 percent of the employer’s share, 8.33 percent goes to the employee pension scheme. Apart from this, the government also contributes 1.16 per cent to the pension fund.
Multiple pension schemes implemented
Raut said, “Though the government has implemented several pension schemes for the welfare of the public, the EPS employees are getting only nominal pension amount after contributing to the pension fund during their entire service.” ..” The statement said, “If the minimum pension is not increased in this monsoon session, the pensioners will hold a nationwide protest…”
