New Delhi . The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering an increase in Test match fees following the growing trend of players to prioritize their participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over red-ball cricket.
BCCI is considering increasing the test match fees of Indian cricket players.
The board has probably decided to increase the match fees after questions were raised about Ishan Kishan’s prolonged absence from domestic cricket.
The wicketkeeper-batsman ignored the team management’s call to play domestic cricket, and was instead seen working out and practicing in Baroda ahead of the IPL starting next month.
The Indian Express report, citing a source, said that the BCCI is in the process of determining the additional bonuses that will be given to a player if he competes in every Test series throughout the season.
A source said, “For example, if someone plays all the Test series in a calendar year, he should be rewarded additionally in addition to the annual retainer contract. This is to ensure that more players are exposed to red-ball cricket. Come.”
The report states that if the new fee model is approved, it will be implemented after the conclusion of this IPL season.
Earlier, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had warned centrally-contracted and India ‘A’ cricketers against participating in domestic cricket, saying that their move to prioritize IPL over domestic cricket would have serious implications.
Some reports have claimed that Ishan, who has a Grade C contract, is likely to be dropped from the BCCI central contract due to his absence from the Ranji Trophy.
