Indian players are said to be taking a step forward in ignoring Test cricket for the sake of IPL. Currently, players get Rs 15 lakh for playing Test cricket. There is discussion as to how the decision will be implemented after the upcoming IPL.
BCCI official said, ‘New salary structure can be implemented after IPL. In this, if the player plays all the Test matches with the Sangh throughout the year, he will get a bonus. Apart from the annual salary and match fee, he will be given only money. The board is making efforts to make the players more interested in playing red ball cricket. BCCI has taken important steps to promote Test cricket. One part of the petition is the salary increase plan for the players. According to sources, BCCI has prepared a draft regarding increase in honorarium of players and it will be implemented in the next meeting or after getting the approval of the plan or after the IPL uproar. BCCI works on additional bonuses for players who play all Test matches in a season. Currently, BCCI gives salary of Rs 15 lakh for each Test match, Rs 6 lakh for ODI match and Rs 3 lakh for T20 International match. The Board would have said that players who are fit and not part of the national team will have to play domestic cricket. Despite this, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Krunal Pandya and Deepak Chahar have not played Ranji Trophy for their state. Ishan, Krunal and Chahar started preparing for IPL in February.
